I put a lot of thought into making my poster both colorful and educational, and I hope it helps others appreciate how special these birds are. Below is my completed poster for this challenge.

Summer Learning Journey – Experiments With Eleanor – Week 4

Today I began another one of the Summer Learning Journey Challenges. I was really excited to try this experiment because I love discovering how things work in real life. For this challenge, we got to explore scientific concepts like buoyancy and density using something as simple as a fizzy drink and raisins!

I was curious to see what would happen when the raisins were dropped into the fizzy drink. At first, they sank to the bottom because they are denser than the liquid. But then, something amazing happened—the bubbles from the fizzy drink attached to the raisins and made them float to the top! It was so cool to watch them rise and fall over and over again.

Through this experiment, I learned how gases in liquids can affect objects and how density determines whether something sinks or floats. It was really fun to see science in action in such a simple, hands-on way. I also felt really happy to blog about it because I love sharing experiments and discoveries with everyone who reads my blog. It makes me feel like I’m exploring and learning alongside them!

This challenge reminded me that science is not just something in books—it’s all around us, even in our drinks and snacks. I can’t wait to try more experiments and see what other amazing things I can discover.

Summer Learning Journey – Tuatara Taonga – Step It Up – Week 4

Summer Learning Journey – Magic Horses – Step It Up Challenge

Today, I embarked on another exciting activity as part of the Summer Learning Journey Challenges. For this particular challenge, participants were invited to create an artistic representation of either an Alicorn or a Pegasus. After careful consideration, I chose to illustrate an Alicorn, as I find these magical creatures to be particularly enchanting and visually captivating.

I thoroughly enjoyed this challenge because it allowed me to fully explore my creative abilities and express my imagination through art. Focusing on the intricate details of the Alicorn—its graceful wings, flowing mane, and elegant features—was both engaging and inspiring. Completing this drawing gave me a real sense of accomplishment, and I am thrilled to share my work with readers of my blog, hoping it sparks as much wonder and appreciation for magical creatures as I felt while creating it.

Below is the finished illustration of my Alicorn, a creation that reflects both my artistic effort and my passion for fantasy-inspired art.

Summer Learning Journey – Magical Horses – Kick Start Challenge

Today, I started another one of the Summer Learning Journey Challenges, and this one was particularly fun and magical! For this Challenge, we were given a special template filled with questions designed to help us explore the differences between three incredible Magical Horses: the Unicorn, the Alicorn, and the Pegasus. The questions asked us to compare and contrast these mystical creatures, such as which ones have wings, which ones have a horn, and other unique features that make each horse truly special.

I really enjoyed working on this Challenge because it allowed me to dive into the magical world of these legendary creatures and discover all the little details that set them apart. The template was very detailed, and I took my time carefully answering each question so that all the differences would be clear.

What made this Challenge even more exciting for me was knowing that I could share my completed template with everyone who reads my blog. It felt amazing to combine learning with creativity and then share the magical experience with others.

Below is my completed “What’s the Difference?” template, where I explored all the fascinating features of the Unicorn, the Alicorn, and the Pegasus.

Summer Learning Journey – Dragon Explorers – Step It Up Challenge

Today, I started another one of the Summer Learning Journey Challenges, and this one was especially exciting! For this Challenge, we were asked to create a postcard addressed to a Dragon Professor. I really enjoyed this task because it instantly transported me back into a world of fantasy and imagination. As I thought about dragons, castles and magical landscapes came to mind, which made the process even more fun and inspiring.

For my postcard, I decided to include a collage of four dragons, each representing one of the four elements: fire, water, earth, and ice. If you’re not familiar with the elements, fire is fierce and fiery, water is fluid and calming, earth is strong and steady, and ice is cool and mysterious. Designing each dragon to match its element allowed me to explore different colors, shapes, and personalities for each creature, which was such a creative challenge.

I was also really happy to share my work with the readers of my blog because it’s always exciting to show others the worlds and creatures I imagine. Below is my completed postcard for the Dragon Professor, and I hope it sparks a little bit of magic and wonder for everyone who sees it!

Summer Learning Journey – Mountain Stone Weta – Step It Up Challenge

Today I began another one of the Summer Learning Journey Challenges! For this Challenge, we were asked to design our own creature that could survive in extreme cold environments. I was immediately excited because I love thinking about how animals adapt to really harsh places, like icy mountains or frozen oceans.

I spent a lot of time imagining what my creature would need to survive. Would it need thick fur or a layer of blubber? Sharp claws to move across ice? Big eyes to see in snowy storms? Using the drawing creature app, I was able to experiment with all these ideas and bring my creature to life. I tried out different shapes, textures, and colors until I created something that looked strong, clever, and perfectly suited to the freezing cold.

Creating my creature was so much fun! I loved being able to mix science and creativity—thinking like a scientist about how it would survive, but also like an artist about how it would look. I gave it special features that make it unique, and I even imagined how it would hunt, explore, and play in its icy home. My Creature is a wolf with three tails and cat like paws with the sharpest of claws.

I am really happy that I get to share my creature with everyone who reads my blog. It makes me proud to see my ideas come to life and to know that I can combine learning and creativity in such a fun way. Designing this creature was an amazing experience, and I can’t wait to see what other challenges will inspire me next!

Summer Learning Journey – Experiments With Eleanor

As part of the Summer Learning Journey, I took part in a fun and interesting science experiment with Eleanor that helped me understand the scientific concepts of cohesion and adhesion. This hands-on activity made learning science exciting and easy to understand.

For this experiment, we used paper towels and water to observe how water moves. We placed the end of a paper towel into water and watched as the water slowly travelled up through the tiny channels in the paper towel. It was amazing to see how something so simple could show such an important science idea.

Through this experiment, I learned that adhesion is when water sticks to other surfaces, like the fibres in the paper towel, and cohesion is when water molecules stick to each other. These two processes work together to help water move upwards, even against gravity. Eleanor also explained that this is similar to how water moves through plants, from the roots all the way up to the leaves, which made the experiment feel even more real and meaningful.

I really enjoyed doing this experiment because it was interactive and fun, and it helped me understand science better. I am happy to share this experiment on my blog because it shows how learning through the Summer Learning Journey can be both enjoyable and educational.
