Today, I started another one of the Summer Learning Journey Challenges, and this one was particularly fun and magical! For this Challenge, we were given a special template filled with questions designed to help us explore the differences between three incredible Magical Horses: the Unicorn, the Alicorn, and the Pegasus. The questions asked us to compare and contrast these mystical creatures, such as which ones have wings, which ones have a horn, and other unique features that make each horse truly special.

I really enjoyed working on this Challenge because it allowed me to dive into the magical world of these legendary creatures and discover all the little details that set them apart. The template was very detailed, and I took my time carefully answering each question so that all the differences would be clear.

What made this Challenge even more exciting for me was knowing that I could share my completed template with everyone who reads my blog. It felt amazing to combine learning with creativity and then share the magical experience with others.

Below is my completed “What’s the Difference?” template, where I explored all the fascinating features of the Unicorn, the Alicorn, and the Pegasus.

Today, I started another one of the Summer Learning Journey Challenges, and this one was especially exciting! For this Challenge, we were asked to create a postcard addressed to a Dragon Professor. I really enjoyed this task because it instantly transported me back into a world of fantasy and imagination. As I thought about dragons, castles and magical landscapes came to mind, which made the process even more fun and inspiring.

For my postcard, I decided to include a collage of four dragons, each representing one of the four elements: fire, water, earth, and ice. If you’re not familiar with the elements, fire is fierce and fiery, water is fluid and calming, earth is strong and steady, and ice is cool and mysterious. Designing each dragon to match its element allowed me to explore different colors, shapes, and personalities for each creature, which was such a creative challenge.

I was also really happy to share my work with the readers of my blog because it’s always exciting to show others the worlds and creatures I imagine. Below is my completed postcard for the Dragon Professor, and I hope it sparks a little bit of magic and wonder for everyone who sees it!

Today, I started another exciting challenge as part of the Summer Learning Journey! For this challenge, we were asked to design our very own dragon-themed postal stamp. I had so much fun bringing my ideas to life and letting my creativity take the lead. Designing the stamp gave me the chance to experiment with colors, shapes, and details to make my dragon look both magical and unique.

I really enjoyed every part of the process, from imagining the dragon to deciding how it would fit perfectly onto a tiny stamp. It felt amazing to combine art and design in such a creative way. I am also very happy to share my finished creation with everyone who visits my blog because it’s exciting to show how I interpreted this challenge in my own style.

Today I began another one of the Summer Learning Journey Challenges! For this Challenge, we were asked to design our own creature that could survive in extreme cold environments. I was immediately excited because I love thinking about how animals adapt to really harsh places, like icy mountains or frozen oceans.

I spent a lot of time imagining what my creature would need to survive. Would it need thick fur or a layer of blubber? Sharp claws to move across ice? Big eyes to see in snowy storms? Using the drawing creature app, I was able to experiment with all these ideas and bring my creature to life. I tried out different shapes, textures, and colors until I created something that looked strong, clever, and perfectly suited to the freezing cold.

Creating my creature was so much fun! I loved being able to mix science and creativity—thinking like a scientist about how it would survive, but also like an artist about how it would look. I gave it special features that make it unique, and I even imagined how it would hunt, explore, and play in its icy home. My Creature is a wolf with three tails and cat like paws with the sharpest of claws.

I am really happy that I get to share my creature with everyone who reads my blog. It makes me proud to see my ideas come to life and to know that I can combine learning and creativity in such a fun way. Designing this creature was an amazing experience, and I can’t wait to see what other challenges will inspire me next!

As part of the Summer Learning Journey, I took part in a fun and interesting science experiment with Eleanor that helped me understand the scientific concepts of cohesion and adhesion. This hands-on activity made learning science exciting and easy to understand.

For this experiment, we used paper towels and water to observe how water moves. We placed the end of a paper towel into water and watched as the water slowly travelled up through the tiny channels in the paper towel. It was amazing to see how something so simple could show such an important science idea.

Through this experiment, I learned that adhesion is when water sticks to other surfaces, like the fibres in the paper towel, and cohesion is when water molecules stick to each other. These two processes work together to help water move upwards, even against gravity. Eleanor also explained that this is similar to how water moves through plants, from the roots all the way up to the leaves, which made the experiment feel even more real and meaningful.

I really enjoyed doing this experiment because it was interactive and fun, and it helped me understand science better. I am happy to share this experiment on my blog because it shows how learning through the Summer Learning Journey can be both enjoyable and educational.

Today I completed another activity as part of my Summer Learning Journey, and I really enjoyed this challenge because it helped me learn more about animals that live in extreme environments. I focused on the Mountain Stone Wētā, which lives high in the cold mountains of Aotearoa New Zealand. I found it very interesting to learn how this small insect can survive freezing temperatures by slowing down its body processes and even freezing solid during winter, then thawing out when the weather warms up. I enjoyed this activity because it made me think about how animals adapt in different ways to survive tough conditions.

As part of this challenge, I also compared the Mountain Stone Wētā with a polar bear, which lives in the freezing Arctic. Even though they are very different animals, they both have amazing adaptations that help them survive extreme cold. The Mountain Stone Wētā survives by conserving energy and freezing safely, while the polar bear survives by using its thick fur and a layer of blubber to keep warm and store energy. This comparison helped me understand that animals can use very different strategies to survive similar environments.

I am happy to blog about this activity because I enjoy sharing what I have learned with others and showing my thinking. Blogging also helps me reflect on my learning and feel proud of the work I have completed. I liked how this challenge combined science and thinking, and it made learning fun and interesting. Overall, I am really pleased with this post and excited to continue sharing my Summer Learning Journey.

Today I began another one of the Summer Learning Journey Challenges. For this Challenge we had to retrace the legendary footsteps of the Taniwha, Āraiteuru and Niua, all the way to Te Ao Kūkara—the realm of their ancient stories. According to Māori legend, Taniwha are powerful guardians of rivers, lakes, and oceans, and each one has its own journey and purpose.

Āraiteuru, known for guiding waka (canoes) safely through dangerous waters, is said to travel along the coastline, ensuring safe passage for those who respect the waters. Niua, on the other hand, is a guardian of deeper, more mysterious waters, often appearing in hidden places where the ocean meets the land.

To retrace their steps, I imagined following the winding rivers and coastal paths they might travel. Starting at the mouths of sacred rivers, I pictured Āraiteuru gliding through the waves, navigating the tides, and watching over travelers. Then, moving deeper inland and along hidden bays, Niua emerges, guarding treasures of the sea and keeping the balance between humans and nature.

This journey led me, in my imagination and through my creative process, to Te Ao Kūkara, a world where the stories of Taniwha come alive. Here, the waters are alive with movement and energy, and the presence of Āraiteuru and Niua reminds us of the power and mystery of Māori legend. By retracing their paths, I gained a deeper understanding of their roles as protectors, guides, and guardians of the natural world.

Through this exploration, I not only connected with the stories of Āraiteuru and Niua but also celebrated the richness of Māori culture and mythology. It was amazing to see how storytelling, imagination, and creativity can bring these legendary beings into our own world.

Today I began another one of the Summer Learning Journey Challenges, and this time it was an especially exciting one! For this challenge, we were asked to create our own interpretation of two Taniwha from Māori legend. The Taniwha I chose to bring to life are Āraiteuru and Niua, two powerful and fascinating guardians of the waters.

I really enjoyed this challenge because it gave me the chance to explore my creative side and imagine what these legendary creatures might look like. I loved thinking about their shapes, features, and personalities, and then bringing them to life through my artwork. It was a fun way to combine creativity with storytelling, as each Taniwha has its own unique characteristics and presence.

I was also thrilled to be able to share my work with the readers of my blog. It feels amazing knowing that other people can see and appreciate the effort and imagination I put into creating Āraiteuru and Niua.

Below is my completed drawing of the two Taniwha, Āraiteuru and Niua. I hope my artwork captures some of the magic, mystery, and strength of these incredible beings from Māori legend.

Today I began another one of the Summer Learning Journey Challenges. For this challenge, we were asked to create a sea creature using a sculpting app. I really, really enjoyed this challenge because it allowed me to use my creative side and experiment with different shapes, textures, and details.

I chose to create a blobfish because it is one of the most unusual and interesting deep-sea creatures I have learned about. I find the blobfish fascinating because it looks so different from most fish we see every day, and it lives deep in the ocean where it is dark and mysterious. I wanted to make my blobfish look scary because, to me, many deep-sea creatures are scary due to their strange appearances and the extreme environments they live in.

This challenge helped me think about how sea creatures might look and survive in the deep ocean, and it was fun bringing my ideas to life through sculpting. I am also excited that I get to share my finished creation with the people who read my blog. Below is my completed sculpture of my blobfish.

Today I began another exciting Summer Learning Journey Challenge. For this challenge, we were asked to use a cartoon app to design and create our very own dinosaur. I really enjoyed this activity because it allowed me to be creative and use my imagination while customising my dinosaur in many different ways. One of my favourite parts was choosing and adding different types of armour to the dinosaurs, which made each one look unique, powerful, and interesting.

I also had a lot of fun experimenting with the colours, shapes, and features to make my dinosaur stand out. This challenge helped me think creatively and try new ideas while using digital tools. I was especially happy knowing that I could share my finished creation with the people who read my blog, so they could see my hard work and creativity. Below is the completed download of the dinosaur I created using the cartoon app.
